Commonly Asked Questions

Can I drive myself the day of surgery?

No, the day of surgery you will receive sedation. In fact, you will need your driver to stay at the Surgery Center until you are discharged.

Can both eyes be operated on the same day?

No, each cataract surgery is performed on a separate day.

How many visits will this procedure take?

You will initially have a cataract evaluation, then an Ascan. Once both of those evaluations are completed, you will be scheduled for your surgery.

My insurance company informed me that my health plan covers this procedure 100%.

Our office will verify your insurance before your surgery, and you will obtain an estimate on the day of your Ascan so you can be prepared for any additional costs above and beyond your individual health plan. You will receive an estimate for your out-of-pocket costs for the surgeon (Magruder Eye Institute). You will also receive a call from Lakeside Surgery Center or the hospital with your estimated costs for the facility and anesthesia.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Yes, this is an essential part of the cataract evaluation, unless otherwise indicated by your surgeon.

What does the $125.00 charge cover?

This charge covers special testing not covered under a cataract diagnosis to assure that you receive the best possible surgical outcome.
